ABOUT THE FILM

by TPLfilms

A SMALL QUIET ENGLISH TOWN is a multi-award winning documentary film telling the origin story of the jewel in the English folk calendar - Sidmouth Folk Week - when in 1955, 100 dancers assembled in “an ideal place for a seaside holiday with dancing”.

The film tells the story of the “longest running folk festival in Europe”. Using unseen and rare archives, special performances, insights and interviews, we journey through time to explore how the festival grew to a global international event, nearly closing down permanently only to rise again to the event we know and love today.

Featuring Ralph McTell, Steve Knightley, Taffy Thomas, John Jones (Oysterband), Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin (Edgelarks), Eliza and Martin Carthy, historian - Derek Schofield, performances by Electric India Co., Lori Campbell, Rachel Rose Reid and many more as well as appearances by the local faces and places that make Sidmouth “a very special place”
